Where the project came from?

In 2021, McArthurGlen took customer experience to the next level with a digital loyalty program. Now, shoppers can unlock discounts and exclusive events just by using their phones in any McArthurGlen outlet, thanks to the program's web and native app integration.

A Native App built using React Native that allowed Centre Customers to access discounts and events at all stores within the Centres.

Customers who wanted to part of a loyalty scheme in order to receive discount and unlock exclusive events from their favourite brands.

Challenge
 

McArthurGlen saw an opportunity to drive loyalty with their customer through the use of a digital loyalty programm. V1 was launched in June 2022 encompassing both a Native and Web App that allowed customer to scan QR codes in Centre Stores to receive membership discounts and access to events. By December 2022 the platform had attracted 1.2 million members.

McArthurGlens business model means that many of the Centres are located in areas with poor data connectivity. The platform relies on members accessing that days data to ensure they have access to the latest passes, discounts and events.

Research & Wireframing 
 

The image below shows a snippet of the wireframes and user flows of the app's structure and functionality, creating clear pathways for users to navigate.

Design System

With the expansion of McArthurGlen's digital ecosystem with branches for different aspects of the business including B2B, corporate website and app design the need for a design system that is easy to use, flexible across applications, and houses the brand styles in a globally consistent way was despairingly needed to form consistencies of components. Therefore a cloud-based master component design library was built on the principles and methodologies of atomic design, setup with super-smart colour, typography and effects styles. Allowing the team to change one style and apply changes to the entire library

Results

The launch of V2 has allowed Customers to access and use their membership benefits whilst in Centre regardless of whether or not they have access to data. This has been a game changer for both the Centres and their Customers and McArthurGlen is targeting at least 2 million registered members by the end of 2023.
